Due to the public health emergency declared by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in Executive Order 2020-004, and to the Public Health Order issued by the New Mexico Department of Health closing non-essential businesses on March 23, 2020, in person CPR recertification programs have been cancelled. Therefore, the Board of Optometry (Board) will implement the following procedures through the Regulation and Licensing Department, Boards and Commissions staff:

  • Boards and Commissions staff will process initial applications and renewal applications without the proof of CPR certification or recertification needed for licensure or renewal during the pendency of public health emergency in Executive Order 2020-004.
  • Licensees submitting initial or renewal applications without the required CPR certification or recertification, will be required to give notice to the Board through the notice procedures established by the Boards and Commissions dated March 16, 2020, available on the Boards and Commissions website at the following Internet link: http://www.rld.state.nm.us/uploads/files/REC_Public%20Notice_BCD %20Process%20and%20Procedures%20During%20the%20COVID19%20Public%20Health%20Emergency.pdf
  • If all other initial or renewal licensure requirements are met, licenses will be issued or renewed without proof of CPR certification or recertification.
  • When the public health emergency is lifted, Boards and Commissions staff will send out a notice to licensees stating that the licensee will have three (3) months, to submit proof of CPR certification or recertification or be subject to discipline by the Board.
