Partnership will strive to ignite commerce; plan for resiliency

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) has announced it is partnering with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to provide business coaching and mentorship to tourism and hospitality businesses for immediate and sustainable support.

Through the partnership between NMTD and SBDC, tourism businesses will have access to five business advisors who will be readily available to help explore both immediate and long-term solutions to the challenges they are facing during the COVID-19 crisis. These advisors will help business owners navigate financial aid options for their business, identify specialized training solutions and adjust to shifts in regulatory and competitive environments for long-term success.

“The closing down of entire cities, travel restrictions and bans have brought the tourism industry to a halt. The Tourism Department identified this partnership with the Small Business Development Center as a great way to provide support to tourism businesses who need it now,” said Cabinet Secretary Jen Paul Schroer.

“The New Mexico tourism and hospitality sectors are one of the industries that have been extremely impacted from COVID-19, and we want to do what we can to provide immediate and sustained support for those sectors,” said Russell Wyrick, Executive State Director for New Mexico Small Business Development Center Network. “The ability to position New Mexico’s overall economy for a successful recovery cannot happen without a strong recovery for the tourism industry.”

NMTD will be working with representatives from various sectors of the tourism industry to discuss pain points and barriers to recovery as the state continues to address COVID-19 and will use these insights to help the SBDC provide more targeted assistance to benefit tourism businesses.

Businesses are encouraged to submit inquiries and requests for support through this online form. A tourism business consultant from the SBDC will be responding directly to inquiries shortly after submission.
